Kathy has the ability to love both those with addiction issues and those who work to support them. She personally helped me see my spouse as a person, not as villain. Yet, she also helped me make hard decisions when recovery wasn’t being pursued and I needed to find my own safety. The approach, the skills, and the tools Kathy offered were instrumental in my healing and progress. I will be forever grateful for Kathy and others at Therapy Utah.

  • I have never worked with a counselor who has had the insight like Kathy. She has pulled out the little child, the addict, and the recovering man to be from my husband. He appreciated how she was able to see into the situation and help him to recognize his reactions based on these different positions. Superior capability in all things related to sex addiction! I would recommend if you are at the point (past individual work) and want someone to help integrate what’s left and give couples guidance through the devastation of addiction, this is The Place. Thank you Therapy Utah!

Whitney helped me through crippling trauma. She helped me feel safe in expressing feelings and responses, without judgment. She helped me feel confident in establishing boundaries and offered additional resources to help me between sessions. When I was anxious or scared she taught me skills to manage and overcome my fears. I looked forward to each session because I knew I would be heard and understood and that I would leave feeling empowered to handle the challenges i faced. Whitney’s training and experience, along with her natural goodness and care, have made an immeasurable difference in the quality of my life.

Years ago I went to talk therapy. I found it helpful to be able to talk with someone who could see my life with more clarity. Unfortunately, in that instance, I wasn't taught skills I needed to meet life's challenges. Fortunately, in 2022 (yes, during Covid), I started doing Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy with Kathy Kinghorn. Almost immediately, my ability to deal with life and learn new healing skills increased exponentially. Meeting with Kathy is not about meeting with an "expert" who fixes your life. Rather she is a guide who teaches skills that enable you to learn how to become more proactive and how to heal. Kathy's guide gift is rooted in her skill as a teacher, capacious capacity to listen, ability to know just the right question to ask, and her inspired insights. In 2022 when I realized how quickly and deeply I was healing, I invited my family to visit with Kathy also. Meeting with Kathy taught us to become much more adept at becoming truth speakers and doing difficult discussions well. We learned to identify painful patterns from our past and those in our present and how to ameliorate those patterns. As we individually learned IFS skills, we not only incorporated those skills individually but learned to develop the skills as a family. I would say learning IFS skills from Kathy empowered us to not only love each other but to love each other well. This is a kind of P.S. Although there were times in therapy when dealing with pain was difficult and challenging, so much of the time it was also fun and joyful. That surprised and delighted me. So. If you want to learn how to heal, IFS therapy with Kathy is a great place to acquire that skill.
